Derby Weekend
There's a derby at this weekend, between Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, two of the oldest clubs in Turkey. On one side Beşiktaş chasing championship, on one side Fenerbahçe far away from even claiming the cup. So it seems like Beşiktaş is going to win. Everyone thinks Beşiktaş will absolutely have a landslide victory.
But I'm writing this article to clarify one thing about derbys, it's unpredictable. This has been proved over and over last years. The team that is pointed as the front runner before the game, usually relaxes and they think the rival is weak and usually because of this they lose points at
derbys. So Beşiktaş management should warn their players against complacency before the game and keep their minds focused on the championship ambition.
And a last note: as you all know the last derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe was a disaster for Turkish football, the fight that came out of nowhere and then the fans were provoked after that fight, a lot of people encountered smash danger. People were crammed in stadium and many people could have been dead in that incident. In this derby to avoid this kind of awfulness Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe managements should be very careful while making a press statement they must be friendly so the fans will follow them and we can see a derby without blood.
